Zubair, alias Charia, and Abdur Rehman, alias Bhola — two men accused of involvement in the Baldia factory fire case who were recently acquitted by the Supreme Court — have been released from the Central Jail Karachi.
The superintendent of the Central Jail Karachi said both the individuals had been incarcerated in the prison and they were released after the completion of legal proceedings. The release orders were issued by the Sindh High Court registrar, after which they were sent to the relevant anti-terrorism court and the jail superintendent.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court had heard an appeal related to the Baldia Town factory inferno on June 10, in which the apex court had annulled the death sentence for both Zubair and Rehman, which was pronounced by the trial court and upheld by the Sindh High Court.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Shahzad Malik had accepted the appeals of Rehman and Zubair, and ordered their acquittal. Meanwhile, families of the Baldia factory fire victims and labour organisations have demanded that the case be reinvestigated.
