PESHAWAR: Religious scholars, spiritual leaders, and social figures representing various religions and sects under the umbrella of Pak Council of World Religions on Monday reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining lasting peace, inter-sect harmony, patience, tolerance, brotherhood, and mutual respect during Muharram.
They addressed a joint press conference held at the Peshawar Press Club, where the council presented a code of conduct for Muharram. Qari Roohullah Madani, Chairman of the Pak Council of World Religions, addressed the press conference. Also present on the occasion were Prof Dr Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, Mufti Atiqullah, Syed Jamaat Ali Shah, Mufti Abdul Jameel Abid, Maqsood Ahmad Salafi, Allama Fakhar-ul-Hassan Kararvi, Allama Abid Hussain Shakari, Bishop Humphrey Sarfraz Peter, Joseph John and Haroon Sarab Dial.
Presenting the code of conduct, the speakers emphasized mutual respect for religious gatherings, majalis, processions, and acts of worship. The code of conduct also called for responsible behavior on social media, print media, and electronic media in the interest of maintaining law and order. The participants urged people to refrain from spreading rumours, unverified reports, and provocative content.
They called for strict adherence to designated timings, routes, and administrative directives, and urged full cooperation with law-enforcement agencies, district administrations, and peace committees.
The speakers said that dialogue, tolerance, and constitutional and legal means should be preferred for resolving differences. They stressed the need for promoting awareness among the younger generation about peace, tolerance, and responsible citizenship.
