Many people in Pakistan seem to live with fear every day. A journalist fears speaking the truth because it may cost them their safety. Many women fear pursuing education or moving freely because of concerns about harassment and violence. A fresh graduate fears remaining unemployed for months, or even years, despite working hard to earn a degree. Middle-class families fear that their salaries will run out before the end of the month as cost-of-living continues to rise.
Fear has become a part of daily life for many citizens. We live in a country with a constitution that promises rights and freedoms. However, many people feel that these rights are not always accessible in practice. To move forward, we must work together to create a society where citizens live with hope instead of fear.
