PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party - United States of America (ANP-USA) Organizing Committee said on Tuesday that the ongoing membership drive had received an encouraging response from Pakhtuns living across the United States, with a considerable number already enrolled.
A press statement issued by Information Secretary ANP-USA Tauseefur Rehman Muhammadzai said the drive would remain open until July 15, as community members from several states had come forward to register as members.
He said the response was a clear reflection of the trust the Pakhtun diaspora continues to place in ANP’s democratic, secular, and progressive politics, a legacy inherited from Bacha Khan and being carried forward under the central leadership of Aimal Wali Khan.
Chairman ANP-USA Gohar Ali said the ANP had always been a party of the people, and the response from the Pakhtun community in the USA had strengthened this conviction. He urged all those who hold the Pakhtun democratic cause close to their hearts to join before the drive is closed.
Secretary ANP-USA Shahid Iqbal Yousafzai said it was heartening to see that Pakhtuns in America had not lost their connection with the values of peace, political awareness, and public service. He said the membership drive was the first serious step toward building an organized Pakhtun political presence in North America. The Organizing Committee announced that party elections for the ANP-USA chapter would be held in August this year after the conclusion of the membership drive.
