On the occasion of World Environment Day, Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said in his message that protecting environment was a collective responsibility of all of us.

He emphasised that in order to ensure a safe future for the coming generations, we must adopt and promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle. The Sindh government was setting a new example in Pakistan for environmental protection and had taken several practical steps in this regard, he said.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday, Memon said the Sindh government had introduced the concept of green transport by launching electric (EV) buses. He added that for the first time in Pakistan, eco-friendly EV buses and electric scooters had been introduced.

He said this modern transport system was playing an important role in providing comfortable and safe travel facilities to the public while significantly reducing air pollution.

He also stated that a plan to add hundreds of electric buses to the public transport system had also been approved. This initiative would not only provide improved travel facilities to the citizens but also help promote environment friendly transportation, he remarked.

The information minister said the Sindh government had demonstrated that sustainable development and environmental protection could go hand in hand. He reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to intensify efforts to provide the people with a clean, safe and sustainable environment. The government would continue to advance the journey of green and sustainable development in line with the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said.
