A court on Friday remanded a sexagenarian in police custody in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife.

Sixty-four-year-old Asghar Ali surrendered to the police after allegedly murdering his 58-year-old wife Asma at their home in Orangi Town over refusing sex. On Friday, the investigating officer produced the suspect before the judicial magistrate (West) and sought his physical remand for interrogation and completing legal formalities.

After hearing the IO, the magistrate handed over the custody of the suspect to the cops on two-day physical remand. An FIR has been lodged at the Pakistan Bazaar police station under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the behalf of the state.

According to the FIR, the suspect stated in his initial statement that at around 1:16am on June 4, he asked his wife for sex, but she refused. Enraged, he allegedly killed her using an iron rod and a cutter, then locked the house, went to the police station and confessed to the crime. The FIR stated that police later took the suspect to the crime scene, while the woman’s body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital through an ambulance.
