Islamabad:On the World Environment Day, President Asif Zardari has called upon citizens and the international community to recognise the urgency of protecting the environment and addressing the growing threat of climate change.
In a message, the president said rising temperatures, extreme weather events, glacier melt, water stress, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation were no longer distant concerns; they're affecting lives and economies across the world today.
"This year’s World Environment Day focuses on climate action. It is a reminder that the decisions we make now will shape the quality of life of future generations. Climate change is not only an environmental challenge. It is also a challenge for public health, food security, economic growth and sustainable development," he said.
The president said addressing environmental challenges required action at every level. "We must use water responsibly, reduce waste, protect forests, preserve biodiversity and promote cleaner sources of energy. Environmental responsibility should be reflected in our homes, schools, businesses and public institutions."
The president urged youth, civil society, academia, religious leaders, media and the private sector to play an active role in raising awareness and advancing practical solutions. He said the energy, innovation and commitment of young people could make a significant contribution to building a more environmentally responsible future.
