Commissioner directs departments to remain on high alert for expected rains

Rawalpindi:Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak directed all the concerned institutions to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens while maintaining high alert during the upcoming monsoon and expected heavy rains.

He issued these instructions in a meeting held at the Commissioner Office Rawalpindi yesterday regarding the preparations for the expected rains and monsoon season. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Coordination Zenia Humayun, Deputy Commissioners, WASA, Rescue 1122, Municipal Corporation, Civil Defense, Irrigation Department, Highways, Local Government and other concerned institutions.

The Commissioner directed all the concerned institutions to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens while maintaining high alert during the expected heavy rains. He said that all available resources should be utilized for the immediate drainage of rainwater and no water accumulation should be allowed in any area.

The Commissioner directed that all big and small drains, drains and waterways including Nullah Leh should be continuously monitored so that the flow of water He directed the relevant departments to make the process of cleaning storm drains and removing encroachments more effective. He said that special attention should be paid to low-lying areas, underpasses, important highways and sensitive places and ensure immediate drainage of water during rains. All institutions should keep their machinery, water pumps, manpower and emergency equipment fully operational.

The Commissioner directed Rescue 1122, Civil Defense and the district administration to keep the emergency response plan active to deal with any emergency situation and provide timely information and safety instructions to the public. He directed that all field officers should remain active during rains, visit sensitive places continuously and send daily reports to the Commissioner's Office. Control rooms should be kept active 24 hours a day for immediate redressal of the problems faced by the citizens.
