In many parts of Pakistan, children are forced into marriage before they are emotionally or physically ready. Child marriage continues to destroy education, health and the future of young girls and boys. Instead of enjoying their childhood and pursuing their dreams, many are burdened with responsibilities at a very young age. When girls leave school early, many opportunities in life disappear. Many become mothers before they are physically and emotionally prepared. Early marriage can cause serious health problems and affect their mental well-being. Some girls also face abuse in their marriages. Boys can suffer as well, as they are often forced to take on responsibilities before they are emotionally or financially ready. Child marriage harms the future of both boys and girls.
The government must strictly enforce laws against child marriage. Every child has the right to learn, to be free and to build a future of their own.
