The acid attack on a female doctor at Quetta Government Hospital is a shameful reflection of the state of society. This incident is one of the most barbaric attacks witnessed in recent times and we can only hope that the doctor makes a full physical and psychological recovery from this devastating trauma. This is a moment for the entire nation to stand united against such heinous crimes. The government must immediately impose a complete ban on the sale of all forms of acid and conduct a thorough investigation into where the attacker obtained it and how he managed to enter the hospital carrying a bottle of acid.
Acid attacks are among the most destructive forms of violence, inflicting immense physical suffering and lifelong emotional scars. Hospitals must establish strict security checkpoints at all entry points to ensure that doctors, nurses and all staff can work in a safe and protected environment. Civil society must also step forward to raise awareness about acid attacks, which remain disturbingly common in Pakistan.
