Ulema asked to promote peace, unity in Muharram

GUJRANWALA: Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab Chairman Maulana Dr Intikhab Ahmed Noori has said that Muharram teaches patience, tolerance, sacrifice and steadfastness in upholding truth and justice.

Addressing a Peace and Unity Conference held in connection with Muharram, he said the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala remains a guiding light for the Muslim Ummah.

He stressed that maintaining peace, religious harmony and communal unity during Muharram was a collective responsibility.Commissioner Muhammad Ali, Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed, CPO Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan, religious scholars and members of the District Peace Committee attended the conference.

The speakers emphasised that scholars, the administration, law enforcement agencies and the public should work together to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram gatherings and processions.

Commissioner Muhammad Ali said the district administration was in close coordination with all relevant departments and had devised a comprehensive plan for security, cleanliness, traffic management and other arrangements during Muharram.

Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed said sensitive issues would be resolved through consultation and cooperation with the District Peace Committee.CPO Dr Ghiyas Gul Khan said police would ensure foolproof security during Muharram and would not allow any element to disrupt peace. He urged citizens to report suspicious activities to the authorities and contribute to promoting harmony and brotherhood.

DC INSPECTS INTERMEDIATE EXAMINATION CENTRE: Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed paid a surprise visit to the examination centre established at Government Najeeb Memorial Girls High School to review arrangements for the annual intermediate examinations.

He inspected the examination process, anti-cheating measures, security arrangements and facilities being provided to students.The deputy commissioner visited various examination rooms and reviewed seating arrangements, the examination environment, lighting, fans, availability of drinking water, cleanliness of washrooms and other basic facilities.

He also checked the attendance of examination staff and received a briefing from the centre superintendent, invigilators and other concerned officials regarding examination arrangements.

Reviewing security measures, Mr Ahmed directed strict enforcement of Section 144 around examination centres and warned that unnecessary gatherings and unauthorised persons would not be allowed near the premises.

MAN ENDS LIFE AFTER DOMESTIC DISPUTE: A man committed suicide following a domestic dispute in Ladhewala Warriach.According to police, Latif, 45, reportedly quarreled with his wife before consuming poisonous pills. He died shortly afterwards. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
