HARIPUR: Two persons died after drowning in Khanpur Lake, police and rescue sources said here on Monday. The incident occurred near Bhamala village some seven km from Khanpur city.
Police and rescue workers quoted eyewitnesses as saying that some friends from Islamabad were on a picnic at Khanpur Lake near Bhamala stupa. When they started bathing, according to witnesses, one of them slipped into deep water and two of his friends who were swimming nearby jumped after the drowning friends to rescue him but drowned.
The local divers rushed to the scene and rescued one of three friends but were able to recover the bodies of two friends who ventured to enter the deep waters to rescue their friend. The dead were identified as Moheed, 26, and Ejaz Ahmed, 25, residents of Ramzania Colony in Islamabad.On April 30 another young boy named Zabeeh Ullah Jan died after drowning near the plunge pool area of Khanpur Dam.
