Islamabad:The French Embassy has welcomed the Higher Education Commission’s newly introduced double-degree policy as a “historic step” for the development of the higher education sector in the country, especially its internationalisation.

In a statement, the embassy said the policy was the result of several years of joint efforts between Pakistani and French institutions, aimed at expanding structured academic collaboration.

According to it, the initiative, under which students will be able to enrol in two degree programmes at the same time, even from different disciplines, is a major and long-awaited step for both Pakistani and French universities.

"Over the past four years, through the Choose France university tours across Pakistan, we have helped connect institutions, build trust and lay the foundations for this new chapter. Several French and Pakistani universities are currently working together through semester exchanges and are now ready to move towards deeper, high-quality academic partnerships," it said.

The embassy said the double degree policy would open new horizons for the internationalisation of Pakistani universities and create stronger opportunities for students. It congratulated HEC Chairman Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar and executive director Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum, along with HEC teams, for their role in finalising the initiative, noting that French universities are “ready” to further strengthen collaboration with Pakistani institutions under the new arrangement.
