Notices served on five cops over poor performance

LAHORE:Five investigation officers have been issued show-cause notices over poor performance and delays in handling criminal cases, during a crime review meeting held at the Investigation Headquarters on Monday.

During the session, DIG Investigation Lahore Syed Zeeshan Raza reviewed pending cases, investigations into serious crimes and progress on the arrest of proclaimed offenders. Following the review, show-cause notices were issued to Sub-Inspector M Saleem, Incharge Investigation of Civil Lines Police Station; Sub-Inspector Shehbaz Umar of Race Course Police Station and Sub-Inspector M Asif of Old Anarkali Police Station over what officials described as unsatisfactory performance.

Similar notices were also served on Muazzam Ilyas Cheema, Incharge Investigation of Qila Gujar Singh Police Station and Moeen Ilyas, Incharge Investigation of Mughalpura Police Station.

Addressing the officers, Zeeshan Raza said negligence in investigating cases involving rape, violence against women and harassment would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also ordered DSPs Investigation to hold daily meetings with investigating officers to monitor progress in serious criminal cases and ensure the prompt arrest of suspects involved in heinous offences.

Emphasising the importance of prosecutions, the DIG directed officers to improve charge-sheet submission rates, prepare strong challans based on evidence and enhance coordination with the prosecution branch.

Probe into death of elderly man starts

Police have launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified elderly man was found in the Bilal Ganj area near Data Darbar.

According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the deceased, believed to be around 65-year old, was found dead in the locality.Police shifted the body to the morgue. Investigators have begun efforts to trace the deceased's family through fingerprint analysis and other identification procedures. Police said preliminary observations suggest the man might have been a drug addict and that his death could have resulted from a suspected overdose. Officials said no identification documents were found at the time the body was recovered.
