Water supply to Karachi was suspended due to a forced shutdown of power at the Dhabeji pumping station by K-Electric, Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) officials said on Saturday.
They said KE decided to conduct a forced shutdown at 6:30pm on May 30 to immediately repair a major technical fault in Power Transformer No. 1 of the Dhabeji grid.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, as a result of this forced shutdown, 10 of the 21 pumping units of the Dhabeji pumping station were shut down, which severely affected the water supply system to the city and suspended supply to various areas.
KE had initially informed the KWSC about the one-hour power shutdown, but no final information has been provided yet about the time of complete restoration of power.
The KWSC administration is continuously monitoring the situation and is in touch with KE to ensure the earliest restoration of power. They requested residents to use water cautiously and avoid unnecessary consumption.
