Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan spoke at a press conference during the launch of the 3rd Empower National Girls Tournament at the Governor House in Karachi on Saturday.

The event was attended by prominent celebrities, renowned sports personalities, government officials, youth representatives, and a large number of female athletes from across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Khan expressed his gratitude to Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi for his continued support of the PM’s youth programme, and also thanked all the distinguished guests, participants and stakeholders for their presence and contribution to the success of the event.

Addressing the audience, Khan emphasised that the initiative represents a significant step towards women’s empowerment in Pakistan. He said that no nation can achieve sustainable progress and prosperity without empowering its women and ensuring their active participation in all spheres of life.

He highlighted that the PM places special emphasis on youth development, particularly the empowerment of young women, and considers them a vital force for the country’s future.

He described the tournament as a remarkable example of practical women’s empowerment, and noted that such initiatives contribute not only to sports development but also to character building, confidence and leadership qualities of young women.

He acknowledged the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for supporting the development of world-class sports facilities of Olympic standards. He said that these facilities would provide female athletes with opportunities to develop their skills, showcase their talent, and compete at national and international levels.

Khan also remarked that the government is committed to creating opportunities for the youth and women through collaborative initiatives that foster inclusion, development and empowerment.

He said that such platforms would enable women to pursue professional careers in sports, earn livelihoods and represent Pakistan with distinction on the global stage. He described the tournament as a bridge connecting talented female athletes with opportunities for growth and recognition.

He informed the participants that the talent hunt programme would culminate in a grand finale in Islamabad, where the most promising athletes from across the country would compete and demonstrate their abilities.

He expressed confidence that the initiative would help young women build successful futures through sports, as well as emerge as ambassadors of Pakistan on international platforms.

During the question-and-answer session, Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to identifying and nurturing talent irrespective of background or circumstances. He cited the example of Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem, saying that true talent ultimately shines despite challenges and obstacles.

He assured the participants that the government would provide talented youth with the necessary equipment, training and grooming opportunities to help them excel in sports.

Responding to another question, he emphasised the importance of merit, transparency and fairness in sports competitions. He said that referees and coaches participating in the programme would perform their duties impartially, ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes and supporting deserving talent without discrimination.

The press conference concluded with a renewed commitment from the PM’s youth programme to continue promoting sports, youth engagement and women’s empowerment across the country through sustainable initiatives and strategic partnerships.
