Strict action against persons throwing offal in drains: commissioner

LAHORE : Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has warned that strict action will be taken and a fine of Rs50,000 will be imposed for throwing animal waste (offal) in drains, canals, open plots, and streets. The commissioner was chairing a meeting held to review Eidul Azha cleanliness operation.

In the meeting, DC Ali Ijaz and LWMC CEO gave a briefing on the cleanliness arrangements. While giving the briefing, they said that there will be complete digital surveillance in the entire Lahore Division on the occasion of Eidul Azha, mechanical resources have been deployed for digital surveillance.

As many as 1.5 million and more than 8.5 million eco-friendly waste bags are being distributed in Lahore and in the districts, 300 camps are being established in Lahore and 454 in Kasur, Nankana and Sheikhupura for redressal of public grievances and free provision of waste bags, they said.

Commissioner Marryam Khan issued instructions to the Deputy Commissioners of all four districts and LWMC and said, ‘Not only Lahore but the entire Lahore Division is the target. Eidul Azha cleanliness operation will be monitored from the Central Control Room. In Lahore, monitoring will be done through Safe City cameras and drones.

‘Effective customer service operations must be provided to immediately respond to complaints from all sources.’

The commissioner said that 25,000 workers in Lahore and 37,000 in the division will participate in the sanitation operation. She said NOCs have been issued to 452 and the examination of 82 is underway for collecting animal hides.

Buying and selling is going on in 30 cattle markets of the division, including 7 in Lahore.

Commissioner Marryam Khan appealed the citizens to cooperate with the cleaning teams coming to their homes and hand over the offal of animals and waste to the cleaning workers instead of throwing them here and there.

Later, Commissioner Marryam Khan and DC Ali Ijaz visited Bibi Pak Daman Darbar. They reviewed the arrangements for the big gatherings (Majalis) to be held at Bibi Pak Daman Darbar on 7, 8, 9 Zul Hijjah. District administration and police officers gave a briefing on security and municipal arrangements. They said that the security arrangements are complete, monitoring is going on with cameras. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said the arrangements for Bibi Pak Daman Zul Hajj gatherings (Majalis) were reviewed. Steps have been taken as per the instructions to ensure arrangements from every aspect.
