Rawalpindi : Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has finalized a comprehensive cleanliness plan for Eid-ul-Azha to ensure efficient sanitation arrangements across the district during the three-day festival.
According to an RWMC spokesperson, more than 6,340 sanitary workers, supervisory staff and officers would participate in the special Eid cleanliness operation, while 1,066 vehicles and heavy machinery units would remain active in the field.
All staff leaves have been cancelled to ensure uninterrupted sanitation services throughout Eid.
The operation would cover all seven tehsils and 164 union councils of Rawalpindi district.
Under the plan, special cleaning, washing and disinfectant spray operations would be carried out at over 729,577 households, 1,556 mosques, 98 Eidgahs and 560 graveyards.
RWMC stated that mosques, Eidgahs and graveyards would be washed before Eid, while a ‘Zero Waste Operation’ would be conducted a day before Eid-ul-Adha to remove garbage from across the city.
Around 7,991 containers and drums would also be placed at various locations, while 376,700 waste bags would be distributed among citizens for safe disposal of animal offal.
The company said more than 145,000 kilograms of lime, 2,302 litres of phenyl and 981 litres of rose water would be used for disinfection and odor control during the Eid days.
Continuous operations for waste lifting, lime sprinkling and sanitation would continue throughout the three days, while transfer stations and waste containers will undergo special washing on the third day of Eid.
Special arrangements have also been made at five cattle markets where 55 workers and 11 vehicles will perform cleaning duties.
Similarly, 167 workers and 54 vehicles would be deployed at 38 collective slaughter points, while 144 vehicles would transport waste from 33 transfer stations.
Eleven large trenches have been prepared at dump sites for the environmentally safe disposal of animal waste.
RWMC has also launched a large-scale awareness campaign under which 1,300 steamers, 1,900 banners, 46 hoardings, 61,000 brochures, 6,250 posters and 997 vehicle banners would be displayed across the district.
To address public complaints, the RWMC helpline 1139 would remain operational round the clock during Eid, while complaints could also be registered on 051-9291108, 03164801718 and 03164801719. Five control rooms staffed by 20 officials would monitor operations continuously, with complaint resolution times set between 30 minutes and two hours.
