Water resources secretary made OSD

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday carried out a series of appointments, transfers, and administrative changes in the federal bureaucracy, including the removal of the secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, and fresh appointments to several key departments.

According to notifications, issued by the Establishment Division, Federal Secretary for Water Resources, a grade-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Syed Ali Murtaza, has been removed from his position and directed to report as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Secretary Petroleum Division Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh has been assigned the additional charge of secretary Water Resources.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also approved a six-month extension in the additional charge of secretary Law and Justice, held by Raja Naeem Akbar, Senior Technical Adviser at the Ministry of Law and Justice. The extension will take effect from May 12, 2026.

Secretary Climate Change Aisha Humera Chaudhry has been granted 12 days of ex-Pakistan leave from May 20 to May 31.

The prime minister further approved three appointments to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs for a period of three years. Syed Ali Tahir Nasir has been appointed Chief Engineer and Ship Surveyor, Muhammad Faisal as Principal Officer, and Raja Fawad Ali as Engineer and Ship Surveyor.

Director General Ports and Shipping Wing Karachi, Muhammad Riazuddin Khan, has been transferred and directed to report to the Establishment Division.

In another development, the deputation of Grade-18 Office Management Group (OMG) officer Ms Fareeha at the National School of Public Policy has been extended for two years.

Grade-19 officer of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Excise and Taxation Department, Imaduddin, has been appointed on deputation to the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).

The services of Grade-20 Sindh government officer Mustafa Jamal Qazi have been returned to the provincial government.

Suspended Grade-18 PAS officer Waqar Ali has been reinstated, while Grade-18 PAS officer Umar Asad has been dismissed from service. Ramesh Hassan Rana, who was awaiting posting, has been appointed Section Officer Parliamentary Affairs.

Meanwhile, Grade-17 lecturer Ata Hussain Shah of the Sindh Education Department has been appointed on deputation to the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), while Sindh government Women Medical Officer Dr Kulsoom Mustafa Brohi has been posted on deputation to Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad.

The deputation of Mudassar Hussain, currently serving in the Council of Common Interests (CCI), has also been extended for two years.

Additionally, the probation period of seven OMG officers has been abolished. The officers include Nimra Imtiaz, Muhammad Faraz Anwar, Amina Batool, Muhammad Waqas Khan, Talha Mehfooz, Shoaib Mujtaba Mughal, and Laila Yousaf.
