CHARSADDA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) leader Maulana Senator Attaur Rahman on Monday demanded the government to arrest the killers and masterminds behind the murder of Maulana Muhammad Idrees alive so the facts surrounding the case could be ascertained.
Addressing a press conference here, the JUIF provincial chief announced that a Sheikh Idrees Conference would be held in Charsadda on June 18.
He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police had been clearly informed that they were not interested in receiving the bodies of the accused, but rather wanted the killers arrested alive to uncover the actual conspirators and motives behind the killing.
The senator said attempts by certain elements to attribute responsibility for the murder to a particular group were aimed at diverting attention from the real facts.
He maintained that religious scholars had been targeted in the country for a long time and alleged that enemy forces were carrying out such attacks to create instability and unrest.
Referring to the aftermath of Maulana Idrees’ killing, he said the situation had not been allowed to spiral toward civil strife.
Criticising the provincial government, he said the chief minister should have resigned after admitting failure instead of visiting the family to offer condolences after the incident.
The JUIF leader also came down hard on the provincial government, saying the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government had proven to be the most unsuccessful administration and had failed to deliver meaningful welfare projects for the people over the past 13 years.
