For many people, a government job is the ultimate goal because it is seen as bringing stability, respect and lifelong security. But times have changed now and competition is so high many people are left with limited choices. Every year countless young individuals apply for very limited vacancies, leaving the vast majority disappointed. Yet the dream persists. Across Sindh, thousands of young people keep placing their hopes on government exams, clinging to an idea of success that no longer exists. Many spend years preparing for competitive exams that may never lead to a job.

We need to do a better job of encouraging self-employment and entrepreneurship and other alternatives to the government job. This is not just about jobs. It is about how we, as a society, respond to the changing world. It is about whether we are willing to adapt or insist on a broken system. Change is possible. We have to invest in education that teaches practical skills, not just exam preparation. If we continue pushing young people towards a future that no longer exists, we risk losing them completely. We should not wait for that to happen. The time to act is now.
