MARDAN/SWABI/ BATKHELA: Four people died and 10 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Mardan and Swabi districts as material losses were reported in Malakand, Rescue 1122 officials said.
In Mardan, a shop shutter came down crashing in Tota Killay due to strong winds injuring 17-year-old Osama, the son of Gulfraz.The Rescue 1122 medical team transported him to the District Headquarters Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In Narai Baja Sharifabad, a wall collapsed due to heavy rains, causing the death of 28-year-old Usman, the son of Rehman Syed. The body was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex where doctors declared him dead.
According to Rescue 1122, a room caved in near Mansab Pul, leaving four persons injured. The injured were identified as 70-year-old Qaisar, 50-year-old Hamid,7-year-old Habibullah, and 39-year-old Fazal Rahman. They were rushed to a hospital by the rescue teams.
Two people, including a woman, were killed and several others injured in heavy rain and storm in Swabi district, said rescue officials. Naeem Khan died after being struck by lightning in Tarlandi, while Tayyab Khan and Zarif Khan were seriously injured.
They were taken to Tehsil headquarters hospital.In the tragic incident of wall collapse in Baja a woman was critically injured but later she succumbed to her injuries and the doctors officially confirmed her death. She was 45. Abuzar was seriously injured after wall collapses in Shewa village and he was shifted to Tehsil headquarters hospital.
Similarly two people were injured after a huge billboard collapsed in Yar Hussain village due to heavy rains and strong winds.Severe windstorms and heavy rain lashed different parts of Malakand district, uprooting electricity poles, damaging household solar systems, trees and signboards, causing heavy financial losses to residents. However, no casualties were reported.
According to details, strong winds and torrential rain disrupted normal life across all three tehsils of Malakand district - Batkhela, Dargai and Thana Baizai - forcing people to remain confined to their homes. In Tehsil Dargai, an 11kV power transmission line collapsed in Alf Kali, suspending electricity supply to the area. In Purana Sakha Kot and Majboorabad, the boundary wall of a house collapsed, while in Gul Shah Kali, two tobacco barns were completely destroyed.
Similarly, electricity wires and household solar systems were damaged in several areas, causing losses worth millions of rupees to local residents.In Allah Dhand Dheri area of Tehsil Batkhela and Thana Baizai, signboards and electricity wires were blown down, while tents erected for sacrificial animals were also destroyed by the storm.Till the filing of this report, no loss of life had been reported. Residents and members of civil society urged the government to compensate citizens for their financial losses.
