Two young boys drowned in a water-filled pit in a plot in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Dhani Bux Goth within the jurisdiction of Site Super Highway police. Residents, with the help of volunteers from the Chhipa Welfare Association, recovered the bodies from the pit and transported them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The victims were identified as 11-year-old Waseem, son of Siddiq, and 10-year-old Zeeshan, son of Ameer Muhammad. Both were residents of the same area.
According to rescue officials, the children drowned while bathing in the pit during the intense heat. Police said efforts were underway to trace the owner of the plot. Officials added that the plot had neither a boundary wall nor a watchman, terming the owner’s negligence a punishable offense.
Police further stated that a case would be registered and the plot owner if the victims’ families approached the authorities for legal action.
