Faculty members of the Persian Language Department of University of Karachi visited the Iranian Consulate and met Iranian Consul General Akbar Essazadeh on Saturday to discuss plans for the promotion of the Persian language in educational institutions and the enhancement of academic relations between Iran and Pakistan.

Participants in the meeting discussed the history of the Persian language in the education system of the subcontinent and its cultural significance. Representatives of the Persian Language Department briefed the consul general on their educational activities and presented suggestions regarding the promotion of the Persian language in educational institutions across Pakistan, including the organisation of various courses.

Essazadeh, while highlighting the importance of the University of Karachi, described the Persian language as an important means of understanding the shared heritage of the two nations and assured full cooperation in addressing challenges and obstacles related to its promotion.

He emphasised that in Pakistan’s educational institutions, the Persian language should be viewed not only as a subject of language and grammar but also as a means of understanding and communication. He added that proficiency in Persian could also help students contribute to economic and trade relations between the two countries in addition to academic activities.

Professors associated with the Persian Language Department said that if students learned Persian professionally and later applied their skills in trade and economic sectors between the two countries, it could become a viable source of income for them, encouraging greater interest in learning the language.

Department representatives further stated that after a gap of 25 years, a Persian language expert professor from Iran has joined the University of Karachi for teaching, which has not only improved academic activities but also enhanced the quality of education and created opportunities to strengthen academic ties with Iranian universities.
