A fire broke out in a flat located on the fourth floor of Kareem Plaza near Civic Centre, within the jurisdiction of the New Town police station, on Thursday.
The blaze suddenly erupted in the apartment situated adjacent to Civic Centre on Sharea Faisal. Upon receiving information, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and safely evacuated residents from the flat to a secure location.
Teams from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 also reached the site and immediately launched efforts to extinguish the fire. The blaze was brought under control within half an hour with the help of two fire tenders. During the incident, household items inside the apartment were reduced to ashes. However, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Fire brigade officials said the fire broke out due to a short circuit in the outer unit of an air conditioner installed in the gallery of the flat. The fire later spread to different rooms of the apartment before being extinguished in time.
