PESHAWAR: Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday said the people of the province were looking for a political alternative to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) must play its role as the true representative of the public.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of the PPP Peshawar Division and its subsidiary organisations at the Governor’s House, Peshawar.The meeting was also addressed by PPP KP President Muhammad Ali Bacha, former Speaker of the KP Assembly Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmatti, Senior Vice President Ayub Shah, Women Wing leader Asiya Jahangir, Divisional President Misbahuddin, Metropolitan President Umar Khittab, Syed Tahir Abbas, Peoples Students Federation leaders Hazrat Jamal, Hifzanullah Khan and Babar Fayyaz Khalil, Peoples Labour Wing President Shah Zulqarnain, Peoples Doctors Forum President Dr Janbaz Afridi, Peoples Lawyers Forum General Secretary Lajbar Khan, Nowshera district president Idrees Khattak, Khyber district president Dr Sher Shah Afridi, and Mohmand leader Malik Sartaj Khan, among others.
The governor said the PPP had greater political scope in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa than any other political party.He said the party had successfully organised a workers’ convention in Malakand despite heavy rains last month and expressed confidence that the May 8 convention would also prove successful.
The governor added that differences of opinion within the party were natural and acknowledged that complaints raised by subsidiary organisations were valid.
He stressed the need to strengthen party organisation and complete incomplete organisational structures.The governor said the Peoples Students Federation (PSF), Traders Wing, Minority Wing, and all other wings should be made active and vibrant. He added that separate provincial-level conventions of lawyers and doctors forums would also be organised.
He said the Governor’s House was always open for party workers and that he would continue to stand by them in times of joy and sorrow. He termed the governorship “a trust of the party.”
The governor announced that conventions in Dera, Bannu, and Malakand divisions would soon be organised.He urged party leaders to strengthen one another instead of engaging in internal rivalries and called for a vigorous campaign in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP KP President Muhammad Ali Bacha said the May 8 Youth and Workers Convention in Peshawar would be historic, adding that party workers who remained active during difficult times were the party’s real asset.
