LHWs end protest after salary payment assured

PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Shafiullah Jan, held talks on Monday with a representative delegation of protesting contract employees of the Lady Health Workers (LHW) Programme, following which the workers announced an end to their ongoing protest in Peshawar.

During the talks, issues faced by LHWs were discussed, particularly pending salary payments and other related matters.Shafiullah Jan assured the delegation that the provincial government was taking steps to address their demands.

Addressing the protesting employees at Assembly Chowk, the special assistant said that a committee would be formed to review the demands of the LHWs. He announced that two months’ pending salaries of contract employees under the LHW Programme would be paid within two days, while salaries for an additional four months would be released soon.

Shafiullah Jan reiterated that the provincial government was committed to providing LHWs with a safer working environment. “The health sector remains among the government’s top priorities,” he said.
