ISLAMABAD: Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu on Sunday highlighted the deep-rooted historical bond between the people of Turkiye and Pakistan and thanked the people of South Asia, especially Muslims, for their steadfast support during his country’s War of Independence.

“This bond has evolved into an eternal brotherhood between Pakistan and Turkiye,” Turkish Ambassador Irfan Neziroglu told a function held at a hotel here to mark his country’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.

He underlined the significance of the day and reaffirmed the enduring brotherly ties between the two countries.

The event was attended large number of the children, parents and teachers.

The day is celebrated annually in Turkiye as National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, marking the establishment of the Grand National Assembly in 1920 during the Turkish War of Independence. Ambassador Neziroglu said the founder of the Republic of Turkiye, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, dedicated the day not only to Turkish children but to children around the world as well, reflecting a universal message of peace, unity and hope for future generations.

He recalled that in 1979, the United Nations recognised the day as an international event, after which Turkiye began hosting children from across the globe to celebrate the occasion annually.

Paying tribute to Ataturk, the heroes of the Turkish War of Liberation and members of the country’s first National Assembly, he said their sacrifices laid the foundation of modern Turkiye and left a lasting legacy for future generations.

The ambassador highlighted the importance of nurturing joy, unity and shared values among children.

He appreciated the contributions of partner organisations, including Pakistan Baitul Mal, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools and Sweet Homes, for joining the celebrations and supporting the event.

The envoy also thanked the hotel’s management for preparing a special menu for children.

A variety of engaging activities were arranged to provide entertainment for children, including musical chairs, tug-of-war, quiz competitions, football matches, trampoline activities and inflatable play areas, creating a festive and lively atmosphere.
