PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday issued notices to the relevant authorities on deteriorating condition of roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and sought reports within 14 days.
The hearing was conducted by PHV Chief Justice SM Attique Shah, on a writ petition filed against the poor condition of roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.During the proceedings, petitioner Nauman-ul-Haq Kakakhel, along with other lawyers, officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shah Faisal Utmankhel appeared before the court.
According to the written order issued after the previous hearing, NHA officials informed the court that construction work on the Indus Highway was going on, with 95 percent already completed, while the remaining work was pending due to non-payment of funds.
The court noted in its order that the NHA chairman had visited Balochistan, Dera Ismail Khan, and Peshawar to review the condition of roads.The court expressed satisfaction over the progress on the Indus Highway and directed the relevant police authorities to ensure security along the route.
Furthermore, the court ordered motorway and highway police to maintain strict checks on vehicles carrying loads exceeding the prescribed limits. It also directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on under-construction roads in Chitral and ensure their timely completion.
