Sardar Abdul Rahim, Sindh secretary general of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), has pledged to raise concern on every forum for the resolution of public issues, declaring that Karachi will not be left abandoned.
Addressing a dinner hosted in honour of the newly elected president of the Karachi PML-F, Anwar Azeem Advocate, Rahim warned that the rising trend of drug abuse across Sindh had become a grave threat to the younger generation.
He criticised the ruling authorities, alleging that they remained preoccupied with personal interests and corruption instead of addressing the people’s problems.
He stated that the government had completely failed to curb narcotics, claiming that drugs were being sold openly in educational institutions as well as on streets, thereby destroying the future of young people.
Highlighting governance concerns, the PML-F leader said that key sectors, including health, education, agriculture, irrigation and particularly Karachi’s infrastructure, had fallen into disrepair due to administrative incompetence, leaving citizens deprived of basic facilities. He added that flawed policies had pushed people back into the stone age and the city continued to be neglected and its resources ruthlessly exploited.
Paying tribute to the sacrifices of the Hur Mujahideen during the Indo-Pak War of 1965, Rahim said they forced the enemy into retreat through guerrilla warfare, setting enduring examples of courage and bravery. He also described the anti-colonial struggle of Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi as historic, noting that the Hur movement had always upheld dignity and resistance against subjugation.
Expressing regret over post-independence leadership of the country, Rahim remarked that power fell into the hands of those who had made no sacrifices. He asserted that the only way out of the current crisis was to strengthen the leadership of the Pir Pagara, the PML-F chief.
Rahim said the PML-F agenda focused on providing basic facilities to the public, ensuring political stability and steering Pakistan towards development and prosperity. He emphasised that Pakistan was rich in natural resources and could achieve developed status under sincere leadership.
Describing the Pir Pagara as a humble and people-friendly leader, the Sindh PML-F secretary general noted his consistent emphasis on education, particularly for girls. He added that the party’s organisational structure in Karachi had been strengthening rapidly with preparations already under way to actively participate in the upcoming local government elections. A public outreach campaign was also being intensified to take the party’s message door-to-door, Rahim said.
He added that the party would continue to voice its concern for public issues at every level and would not abandon Karachi. He accused the current rulers of exploiting the city, and added that the residents of the city held deep affection for the Pir Pagara.
He urged the party workers to promote the slogan ‘United Sindh, Strong Pakistan’ and raise awareness about the party’s manifesto among the masses.
The event was also addressed by Anwar Azeem Advocate, Jamshed Khan, Naeem Sajjad, Shaheen Khan Advocate and Chaudhry Tanveer.
