Pakistan’s changing climate is no longer defined solely by dramatic disasters, but by subtle, measurable shifts. The 2022 floods affected over 33 million people and caused massive losses, while recent data shows increasingly erratic monsoon patterns and rising average temperatures. Southern regions continue to experience prolonged heatwaves, with Karachi repeatedly nearing extreme thresholds. Despite contributing less than 1 per cent to global greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan remains among the most climate-vulnerable countries.
Glacial retreat in the north and growing water stress reflects systemic environmental change rather than isolated events. Addressing climate change now is essential to securing long-term stability and development.
