ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based weekly inflation increased by 0.62 percent during the week ended April 30, 2026, for the combined consumption group, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday.
According to PBS data, the SPI for the week under review for the combined group rose to 354.23 points, compared with 352.04 points recorded in the previous week.On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the SPI increased by 14.52 percent.
The weekly SPI, with base year 2015–16 = 100, covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items across all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) increased by 0.17 percent to 332.16 points from 331.6 points.
The SPI for consumption groups of Rs17,733-22,888; Rs22,889-29,517; Rs 29,518-44,175; and above Rs44,175 increased by 0.26 per cent, 0.37 per cent, 0.51 per cent and 0.83 per cent, respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 14 items (27.45 per cent) increased, 13 items (25.49 per cent) decreased, while 24 items (47.06 per cent) remained stable.
A major increase was observed in the price of diesel, which rose by 7.53 per cent, followed by petrol (7.18 per cent), wheat flour (4.74 per cent), potatoes (1.39 per cent), bread (0.75 per cent), washing soap (0.68 per cent), pulse moong (0.66 per cent), mutton (0.45 per cent), beef (0.39 per cent), bananas (0.37 per cent), fresh milk (0.30 per cent) and cigarettes (0.24 per cent).
On the other hand, prices of tomatoes declined by 17.17 per cent, chicken by 6.0 per cent, garlic by 2.38 per cent, electricity charges for Q1 by 0.94 per cent, pulse mash by 0.89 per cent, LPG by 0.8 per cent, rice IRRI-6/9 by 0.43 per cent, eggs by 0.38 per cent, pulse gram by 0.28 per cent and pulse masoor by 0.16 per cent.
On a YoY basis, the SPI for the week under review increased by 14.52 per cent compared with the corresponding week last year.
During the period, major increases were recorded in the prices of petrol (54.44 per cent), electricity charges for Q1 (52.58 per cent), LPG (47.95 per cent), diesel (47.05 per cent), wheat flour (44.57 per cent) and onions (39.55 per cent).
Prices of mutton, chilli powder, beef, powdered milk and garlic also increased.
Meanwhile, prices of potatoes declined by 46.68 per cent, pulse gram by 20.12 per cent, salt powder by 13.22 per cent, sugar by 12.01 per cent, pulse masoor by 11.42 per cent, chicken by 4.08 per cent, pulse moong by 1.5 per cent and tea by 1.14 per cent over the same period last year, PBS reported.
