Ericsson highlights 5G, AI potential for Pakistan at EU business forum

KARACHI: Ericsson said advanced connectivity, artificial intelligence and 5G could play a central role in accelerating Pakistan’s digital economy, as policymakers and investors met at a European Union-Pakistan business forum in Islamabad, according to a statement on Friday.

The two-day event brought together government officials, technology firms and investors to explore investment opportunities and deepen economic cooperation between Pakistan and the EU.

Speaking at roundtable discussions and keynote sessions, representatives from the Swedish telecom equipment maker said next-generation networks and AI-led infrastructure could drive productivity gains in sectors such as logistics, energy, mobility and financial services.

The discussions highlighted connectivity as an economic driver, with implications for competitiveness, private sector growth and digital inclusion.Ericsson Pakistan Country President Aamir Ahsan, speaking alongside the federal minister for IT and telecom, pointed to the need for public-private partnerships to scale digital transformation. He said policy support, timely spectrum allocation and investment-friendly frameworks would be key to unlocking the benefits of 5G and AI.

At the forum, Ericsson also talked about network technologies aimed at supporting new business models and improving operational efficiency across industries.
