LAHORE: The Steering Committee of Lahore Development Programme (LDP) established by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met at the Town Hall.
The meeting was attended by the Committee’s Convener/Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, Information Minister Azma Bokhari, CM’s Adviser Zeeshan Malik and LG Secretary Shakeel Ahmed, while DC Lahore/Administrator MCL Captain (retd) M Ali Ijaz gave a briefing on Phase-II.
The steering committee expressed satisfaction with the completion of 6,332 streets out of 8,780 in Phase-II directing that necessary steps be taken to ensure the safety of the constructed streets. The meeting was informed that work is underway on 1,983 more streets under MCL while 646 streets have been completed under the supervision of Wasa.
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the savings made in LDP Phase-1 are being used in Phase-II schemes. He praised the performance of both MCL and Wasa.‘This spirit should be maintained in the future as well’, he urged, adding‘718km long streets were built in Phase-1 and 849km long streets are being taken in Phase-II’, he observed.
Zeeshan Rafique said that for the first time such a big project was prepared under the ‘Maryam Nawaz's Sohna Punjab’ programme.Information Minister Azma Bokhari directed that necessary work should be completed before the pre-monsoon. She said that 451km of sewers were laid in the first phase of LDP while 290km is being constructed in Phase-II.
‘Similarly, the length of water supply in Phase-1 is 319km and 258km in Phase-II’, she noted. She added that more schemes would be completed with the savings made in LDP. She said that focus on the entire Punjab is the CM’s vision. ‘LDP, Punjab Development Programme (PDP) and model villages are moving forward simultaneously’, she remarked. On this occasion, CM’s Adviser Zeeshan Malik said that the completion of work through master planning is bringing a new face to Punjab.
