LAHORE:A multi-stakeholder consultation on the ‘Minimum Wages Framework for Brick Kiln Workers in Punjab’ was held on Thursday, bringing together government officials, legal experts, labour representatives, employers, civil society members, and parliamentarians to deliberate on implementation challenges and policy reforms.

The session was organised by the Bonded Labour Liberation Front (BLLF) Pakistan and chaired by its General Secretary, Syeda Ghulam Fatima. Addressing participants, she stated that brick kiln workers remain among the most vulnerable segments of society and continue to face exploitation despite existing legal protections. She emphasised that effective implementation of minimum wage laws is both a legal and moral obligation, stressing the need for stronger enforcement, increased inspections, and greater accountability. She also announced that Labour Day would be widely observed.

Legal experts, including Syed Ayaz Hussain, Mahar Safdar Ali, Javaid Iqbal Gill, Rubeena Jameel, M Tehseen, Bushra Khaliq, Iftikhar Mubarak, TaimoorRehman, and Jawad Ahmad provided a detailed overview of the Minimum Wages Notification 2025 and its legal implications, emphasizing strict enforcement and accountability.Representing the government, Zubair Butt shared ongoing initiatives of the Labour& Human Resource Department Punjab to improve compliance in the brick kiln sector.
