Karachi to benefit from Punjab’s expertise in drainage, water supply

LAHORE: Karachi will benefit from Punjab government’s technical expertise in drainage and water supply.This was stated by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab while addressing a joint press conference with Bilal Yasin at Wasa head office here Wednesday.

He said despite political differences, we are united on one platform for public welfare and national development, said Bilal Yasin welcoming the delegation of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), led by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.

Members of the delegation included CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, COO Asadullah Khan, Chief Commercial Officer Haris Sarfraz, Chief Strategy Officer Sadiq Younas, and CFO Ammar Khan.The delegation was given a detailed briefing on ongoing projects related to drainage and clean water supply in the provincial capital. They were informed about technical initiatives, including SCADA monitoring, helpline systems, solarisation, water metering and wastewater treatment plants.

Later, Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab addressed a joint press conference. Bilal Yasin welcomed the Karachi Mayor to Lahore and stated that Wasa Punjab had introduced digital monitoring of rainwater and drainage system. He said that under the CM’s directions, five agencies were expanded to 41 districts within one year. Under the Wasa Punjab Development Plan, thousands of kilometers of new pipelines are being installed to improve drainage system. Wasa is being fully digitised to ensure effective operational monitoring. The construction of underground water tanks will help to ensure timely drainage and improve groundwater levels. Karachi Mayor stated that Karachi would benefit from the Punjab government’s technical expertise in drainage and clean water supply. He emphasised that inter-provincial coordination and sharing of expertise would help address public issues and improve service delivery. He announced that an MoU between Karachi and Lahore Wasa would soon be signed.
