PESHAWAR: Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday vowed to extend all possible support for the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians regional event scheduled to be held in October this year under the auspices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

He gave this assurance while chairing a meeting at the Governor’s House to review arrangements for the event.

The meeting was attended by Members of the Provincial Assembly Ahmad Karim Kundi, Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf, and Sajjad Khan, KP Assembly Secretary Syed Waqar Shah, and other relevant officials.

Briefing the participants, the assembly secretary said the event is being organised in collaboration with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) under the Gender Strengthening Fund.

He said women parliamentarians and parliamentary representatives from Asia, Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia are expected to participate in the event.

The secretary added that, as the constitutional head of the province and representative of the federation, the governor’s support and role are crucial for the successful holding of the event.

Addressing the meeting, the governor said the international event would not only promote meaningful participation of women in governance but also serve as an effective platform to project a positive image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan globally.

He said the event is expected to enhance parliamentary capacity, strengthen diplomatic engagement, and improve the institutional credibility of the province.

The governor assured full cooperation in resolving any issues at the federal level during the event.

He termed the visit of parliamentary delegations from various countries an honour for the province and stressed the need to make the most of the opportunity.

The governor emphasised that the programme should be organised in a non-political manner in the larger national and provincial interest, showcasing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a peaceful, progressive, and forward-looking region.

Earlier, the briefing highlighted that the event aims to strengthen linkages among women parliamentarians, enhance political and parliamentary leadership, promote mutual learning, and ensure the exchange of best practices in gender-responsive governance, parliamentary participation, and institutional development.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the governor welcomed the participants and appreciated their efforts, while the MPAs also lauded his encouraging stance and paid tribute to the professionalism and dedication of the assembly staff.
