ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered that Member Finance of Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal be appointed by May 18, stating if the appointment is not made before the next hearing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif must appear in person before the court on May 18.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani issued a written order after hearing a case regarding non-appointment of Member Finance of Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal.

The order stated according to Assistant Attorney General, the government returned the summary for appointment with objections. The federal government has been seeking time for appointment over the last four hearings; therefore, it is being given one more opportunity to appoint the Member Finance.

The court further said if the Member Finance is not appointed, the prime minister, along with cabinet secretary and law secretary, must appear before the court and explain obstacles in making the appointment.

During the hearing, the Assistant Attorney General informed the court a retired judge had been appointed. At this, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani remarked retired judges have caused more harm and seem overly eager to join tribunals. The IHC adjourned further hearing of the case until May 18.
