PESHAWAR: The Chairman of the All Pakistan CNG Association (KP Zone), Parvez Khan Khattak, has urged the government to issue an immediate executive order to resolve the ongoing CNG crisis in the province, warning of large-scale protests if supply is not restored within two days.

Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, he said the month-long closure of nearly 600 CNG stations has severely affected livelihoods and deprived citizens of the cheapest available fuel option in the province.

He said CNG supply should have been restored after the repair of pipelines, including Spinwarm and Shewa-1, but stations remain closed despite the completion of maintenance work.

Khattak said approximately 400,000 vehicles depend on CNG daily, adding that the sector saves nearly 1.5 million litres of petrol per day, helping conserve valuable foreign exchange. He claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa produces over 500 MMCFD of gas, while the total provincial requirement, including the CNG sector, stands at 120 MMCFD.

Khattak criticised the federal government for ignoring court directives, noting that the Peshawar High Court had already issued orders to restore CNG supply.

He called upon the prime minister and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum to take urgent steps to resume supply under Article 158 of the Constitution, which safeguards provincial gas rights. The association warned that failure to restore supply within two days would lead to a province-wide protest movement.
