Performance report: Police say 283 terrorists held, 108 killed in 3 months

PESHAWAR: As many as 283 terrorists, including a female suicide bomber and three militant commanders, were arrested, while 108 were killed during operations carried out by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last three months.

Police were attacked 194 times across the province during this period, of which 106 attempts were foiled. As many as 59 police personnel embraced martyrdom, while 88 were injured in attacks on the force.

This was stated during a law and order meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, at the Central Police Office on Tuesday.The meeting was presented with a detailed report on police performance over the past three months, highlighting crime trends and measures taken for their prevention.

Officials informed the meeting that the CTD thwarted several terrorist activities during this period and arrested 283 terrorists, including three militant commanders.The briefing revealed that CTD operations led to the recovery of 1,727 kilograms of explosives, 55 hand grenades, one suicide jacket, 24 SMGs, 21 pistols, and 1,021 rounds of ammunition.

The IGP was also informed about actions taken against drug traffickers, proclaimed offenders, and illegal arms. A total of 7,028 kilograms of drugs were seized, and 7,771 FIRs were registered under the Narcotics Act, leading to the arrest of 7,751 suspects.

The recovered narcotics included 5,695 kg of charas, 275 kg of opium, 210 kg of heroin, and 847 kg of ice, along with 762 bottles and 22,124 litres of liquor.

In the crackdown against illegal weapons, police registered 14,046 cases and arrested 13,876 suspects, recovering a cache of arms, including rifles, shotguns, pistols, Kalashnikovs, hand grenades, detonators, and dynamite.

Additionally, 5,528 proclaimed offenders were arrested, while 66 were killed in police encounters.Under the National Action Plan, police conducted 6,684 search and strike operations across the province, arresting 21,531 suspects and recovering arms and ammunition.

During the same period, 8,558 illegal Afghan residents were taken into custody, and 3,568 FIRs were registered under the Foreign Act.Cases were also registered against the illegal use of loudspeakers, while thousands of educational institutions and sensitive sites were inspected to ensure compliance with security protocols.

The meeting was informed that the IGP Complaint Cell received 3,165 complaints, of which 2,195 have been resolved, and 970 are under process.Regarding Dispute Resolution Councils, 2,166 cases were received, with 1,559 disputes amicably resolved, 421 referred for legal opinion, and 186 still under hearing.
