The administration of the Jamia Millia Government Degree College, Malir, has written to the relevant authorities seeking immediate action against an alleged attempt to encroach upon the college’s land.

Colleges Regional Director Gulab Rai, referring to the letters submitted by the college principal, has formally approached the District Malir deputy commissioner and the anti-encroachment director.

The letter states that certain elements are attempting to illegally occupy the college ground and the adjoining land, posing a threat not only to academic activities but also to public property.

The letter stresses that the land has long been used for educational purposes, and that any encroachment would constitute a blatant violation of the law. Rai urged the authorities to conduct an immediate site visit, prevent any unlawful occupation and initiate legal proceedings against those responsible.

Meanwhile, Sindh Professors & Lecturers Association (SPLA) President Prof Munawar Abbas said teachers and students have expressed serious concerns over the situation, warning that failure to act promptly can severely disrupt the academic environment. The SPLA also called upon the provincial education department to take notice of the matter.

On the other hand, Colleges Director General Farukh Shehzad Qureshi said that the issue of land encroachment at Jamia Millia recently came to his attention, and immediate action has been initiated.

Qureshi said that a detailed report has been sought from the colleges regional director, and that the authorities would not allow any illegal occupation of the college land. He said that the matter would be taken up with the Sindh police chief, the Karachi commissioner and other relevant officials, and legal recourse, if required, would also be pursued
