A tragic traffic accident near Habib Bank Chowrangi in the SITE Area claimed the life of a young girl and left three others injured on Sunday.
According to rescue officials, the incident occurred near the bridge slope where a rickshaw was trapped between two trailers. As a result, four passengers in the rickshaw sustained serious injuries.
A 10-year-old girl, identified as Sabiha, daughter of Irfan, later succumbed to her injuries. The other injured included two women. They were initially shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later to Jinnah hospital.
Rescue authorities identified the injured as 30-year-old Jamila, wife of Allah Rakha, 35-year-old Hussain, son of Hanif, and 16-year-old Tayyaba, daughter of Irfan. Police said one trailer was already parked in a faulty condition while descending the bridge, which was not visible to the approaching rickshaw. Meanwhile, another trailer coming from behind suddenly changed lanes near the stationary vehicle, trapping the passing rickshaw between the two heavy vehicles.
Following the incident, the driver of the rear trailer fled the scene. Police have taken the trailer into custody and shifted it to the SITE Area police station, while efforts are under way to arrest the absconding driver. The victims are said to be residents of New Karachi. Further investigations are under way.
