The Sindh government on Saturday decided to form a provincial cricket team to participate in the upcoming Pakistan Cup, with player selection to be conducted on merit through divisional trials.
In a video statement, Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar said that, in the initial phase, aspiring players would be required to submit a one-minute video of their batting or bowling via WhatsApp. Shortlisted candidates would then be invited to participate in formal divisional trials.
Mahar stated that, following consistent efforts by the Sindh government, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had agreed to provide a platform for emerging talent from the province. He described the initiative as a significant opportunity, particularly for young cricketers in Sindh. He added that the Pakistan Cup was expected to be held at the end of May or in the first week of June. While the event would be organised under the PCB, arrangements would be managed by the Sindh government.
Highlighting the untapped potential in the province, the minister said that although Sindh had immense cricketing talent, many young players lack opportunities to showcase their skills. This initiative, he noted, aimed to bridge that gap by offering a structured and merit-based platform. He urged aspiring players to submit their one-minute videos along with their name, division, and contact number to the Sindh Sports Department’s WhatsApp number (0304-3281152).
