City sizzles at 40°C; increase in heat wave forecast

LAHORE:Hot weather conditions continued to prevail in the provincial capital where mercury reached 40°C here on Sunday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The average AQI of the city was 75, which fell in the category of moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 4.2 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.The city witnessed sizzling heat and Met officials predicted further increase in the heat wave in the coming days. They said the wind speed was between 8 and 14 kilometers per hour, which was unlikely to reduce the intensity of the heat significantly. Medical experts said that during extreme heat, water should be consumed more and safety measures should be taken while going out in the sun to avoid heatstroke and other diseases.
