LAHORE:President of Punjab University's Academic Staff Association (PUASA), Prof Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi has strongly urged the Punjab government to immediately halt the deduction of two days’ salaries from employees of the education sector, particularly university teachers.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, he noted with concern that, under austerity measures, the federal govt had exempted the education and health sectors from such deductions. In contrast, the Punjab government has issued directives to deduct two days’ salaries from these very sectors, creating a clear disparity in policy and treatment.

Prof Magsi highlighted that university teachers have been consistently deprived of key benefits, including the Disparity Reduction Allowance and other essential allowances. The discontinuation of the 25% tax rebate for university teachers in the fiscal year 2025-26 added to their hardship.
