The Sindh government has ordered strict action against public service vehicles operating without valid route permits and fitness certificates across the province.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said a formal letter had been issued to the deputy commissioners and chairmen of the District Regional Transport Authorities (DRTAs) in this regard.

He said the route permits and fitness certificates of a large number of vehicles had expired, and the authorities concerned had been directed to ensure that only vehicles with mandatory documentation under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 and Motor Vehicles Rules 1969 were allowed to operate on the roads.

Memon said a digital system had been introduced for issuing the route permits and fitness certificates. He explained that the fitness certificates were now being issued entirely online, and permits for inter-district and urban routes were also being provided through an automated system. He added that manual route permits would soon be completely abolished.

The transport minister said that the Sindh government was providing subsidies to transporters and it had been stipulated that only the bus fares applicable before February 27, 2026, should be charged. He lamented that despite the clear instructions, several complaints had been received that some transporters were exploiting citizens by charging excessive fares.

Memon directed the relevant authorities to launch a special checking campaign and take immediate action against vehicles operating without valid route permits or fitness certificates, and ensure that the fares were prominently displayed in all the public service vehicles. He also stated that instructions had also been issued to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on the use of CNG and LPG in school vans and inter-district public transport.
