ISLAMABAD: Senator Saleem Mandviwalla on Tuesday strongly refuted circulating social media reports regarding President Asif Ali Zardari, terming them “fake news, baseless, fabricated, and misleading” and urged relevant institutions to take strict action against individuals involved in spreading misinformation and fake news.

“The spread of false and unverified information on social media is highly condemnable,” he said in a statement urging the public not to pay heed to such rumours.

Mandviwalla emphasised that Zardari was in good health and that there was no truth to the claims being circulated online. He further noted that the deliberate use of fake news for political purposes was deeply regrettable and harmful to democratic discourse.

“The nation must exercise caution and refrain from believing or sharing unverified reports,” he added. Calling for accountability, Mandviwalla urged relevant institutions to take strict action against individuals involved in spreading misinformation, stressing the need to curb the growing menace of fake news in the digital space.
