KARACHI: The Sindh Food Department has led a crackdown and dismissed from service six officials for their alleged involvement in corruption.

Officials said cases would be registered against corrupt elements and losses caused to the national exchequer would be addressed.

On the directives of Minister for Food Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman, a major crackdown was carried out in the food department over serious cases of corruption, embezzlement and shortages in wheat stocks, resulting in the dismissal of six food inspectors from service.

According to orders issued by the food department, strict departmental action has been taken against officers found involved in corrupt practices to ensure that embezzlement of government stocks, misuse of authority, and any form of corruption against the public interest are not tolerated under any circumstances. Dismissal orders have been issued after show-cause notices, final show-cause notices, personal hearings, and scrutiny of the record.

The sacked food inspectors are Sharif Bhutto, Mumtaz Ali Jatoi, Bashir Ahmed Magsi, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Naseebullah Brohi, and Muhammad Ali Ujan. Minister Makhdoom Mehboob uz Zaman made it clear that there is no place for corrupt elements in the food department, and any officer or official found guilty of dishonesty involving government wheat, public resources, or state trust will face strict and indiscriminate action.

The orders issued by the department show that action against the officers was taken under the Sindh Civil Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules, 1973.
