RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and its wings have finalized preparations for a massive public meeting in Lahore to re-launch a protest move in Punjab and mark the International Labour Day on May 1.

The announcement about the protest move and marking the May Day was recently made by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi in Mardan.

This was stated by Central Information Secretary of PTI Kissan Wing Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich after having a meeting with the office-bearers of the Kissan Wing’s North and South Punjab chapters and district bodies’ members. According to a statement issued here, he explained that the protest rallies, which were previously postponed due to Iran-US negotiations, will now resume in Punjab and approximately 150 farmers’ associations from across the country will participate in these events under the banner of the PTI Kissan Wing.

He noted that while the Punjab chief minister is taking measures that offer insufficient satisfaction to farmers, the government machinery and profiteering mafias are massively exploiting them at the same time. Local leaders of the PTI Kissan Wing in every district and tehsil of Punjab, he claimed, are raising their voices to solve the difficulties faced by farmers, but they are not being heard anywhere. “Consequently, farmers’ organizations have decided that a large number of farmers will participate in the PTI’s protest rally in Lahore on the Labour Day. The participants will raise their voices for the restoration of the human rights of Imran Khan and other detainees, as well as for the rights of agriculture and the associated farming community,” he contended.

However, he maintained that the mediation efforts between Iran and the US are commendable, and hosting these talks is a shared honour for all Pakistanis. Following the success of these negotiations, he contended, they will advocate the rights of the leadership representing the vast majority in Pakistan of the PTI supremo Imran Khan. He said they will draw full attention to problems being faced by the farmers community and demand that the rulers should resolve internal political matters through constitutional and legal means.
