SUKKUR: A detainee was found dead in B-Section police station lock-up in Nawabshah, following which a judicial inquiry was ordered.

Police said Arshad Bhatti, 25, committed suicide in the toilet of B-Section police station lock-up, sparking strong protests by family members against the police.

The judicial magistrate inspected the scene, recorded statements of lock-up inmates and shifted the body to Peoples Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem by a board of doctors.

SSP Channa said an FIR was already registered against the detainee.

Taking notice, DIG Faisal Bashir Memon constituted an inquiry committee headed by SSP Naushahro Feroze Rohail Khoso and sought a comprehensive report.

Meanwhile, heirs of the deceased staged a protest outside the hospital mortuary, chanted slogans against B-Section Police, and demanded registration of an FIR against the police officials concerned.
